I've been a huge fan of Allegiant Airlines since 2009 when they first began offering super affordable flights from Owensboro, Kentucky to Orlando, Florida. We lived in Orlando at the time, and it was so convenient to fly directly into Owensboro Regional when we visited family.

Direct Flights are the best

I haven't had the opportunity to take a vacation since 2019, but when we go to Florida, flying is always the best option. I really liked having the option of flying out of Owensboro Regional and then back into Evansville Regional airport. We were able to extend a couple of vacations to Florida with the two local airports offering Allegiant flights.

Allegiant Air Leaving Owensboro Regional

Our media partner WEHT WTVW Eyewitness News shared the information from a media release they received.

Allegiant Air Officials say that there are a number of factors in the decision, including rising fuel prices, staffing issues, and aircraft availability. An Allegiant spokesperson tells Eyewitness News, “We’re grateful to the Owensboro Community for supporting Allegiant, and to the airport for their partnership over the years.” The statement continues, “we will continue to provide air service to the community through Evansville.”

This change will not affect Allegiant flights from Evansville Regional airport.

When will Owensboro, Kentucky Allegiant Flights End

The final Allegiant flight out of Owensboro Regional Airport to Orlando Sanford is May 29, 2023. Keep in mind, if you do book a flight on May 29, it is a one-way trip. You will need to find a different flight service home or stay in Florida. If you have a flight already booked after May 29, 2023, Allegiant will provide you with a refund.

LOOK: See America's 50 Best Beach Towns

Every beach town has its share of pluses and minuses, which got us thinking about what makes a beach town the best one to live in. To find out, Stacker consulted data from WalletHub, released June 17, 2020, that compares U.S. beach towns. Ratings are based on six categories: affordability, weather, safety, economy, education and health, and quality of life. The cities ranged in population from 10,000 to 150,000, but they had to have at least one local beach listed on TripAdvisor. Read the full methodology here. From those rankings, we selected the top 50. Readers who live in California and Florida will be unsurprised to learn that many of towns featured here are in one of those two states.

Keep reading to see if your favorite beach town made the cut.
