Most 5th graders aren't thinking about diseases, instead, they're catching up with school work, playing games and just being kids!  Here's a heartwarming story from a young boy who attends Newburgh Elementary School trying to raise money for the Susan G. Komen More Thank Pink Walk.  Here's his reason and his story:

My name is AJ Smith I am a 5th grader at Newburgh Elementary school. I want to raise money to help end breast cancer. Many people in my family have lost the battle with all types of cancers, both of my great grandmother have had breast cancer. My mom works for Komen Evansville and I want to help her raise money for the Walk.

In the past, I have had a pink lemonade stand and raised over $100 for the Walk. This year I want to raise $1,000 to go into the Top Fundraiser Tent.

Saturday September 21st I have a CYFL football game. I am going to PINK OUT for the game! I am asking for people to pledge $5.00 for every tackle I get on Saturday. Please help me reach my goal!

If you would like to help AJ Smith reach his goal of $1,000, please click HERE to go to his story on FACEBOOK.

**As of today, Friday, September 27th, AJ has reached his goal!  In fact, he's raised over $1,800.00!  You may still donate if you wish! See above for a donation.

**I had my mammogram just today at Deaconess Gateway Hospital!  I grumble about how uncomfortable it is, (not everyone, but it is for me!) but, I know this procedure is so important for detection of breast cancer and other abnormalities. Right now, it's the only test shown to reduce breast cancer deaths. Mammograms can detect cancer early - when most treatable — long before it can be felt. I'm fortunate that my own grandmother who had breast cancer, had a mastectomy, and lived to be in her 90's. So, ladies, please get your annual mammograms!  #SusanGKomen
