2021 Indiana Taxpayer Refunds Are Coming Soon – Here’s What to Watch For
I checked our online banking this morning and noticed a little green amount in pending. It was not one of our paychecks, and it wasn't from Santa. Although, I did feel like it was the week before Christmas. I literally had visions of new shoes and makeup in my head. Then I remembered we have bills. Bah humbug to that!
Automatic Taxpayer Refund
You might remember earlier this year, Hoosier taxpayers received $125. So, if you qualified for that, then you also qualify for this latest refund installment. You don't even have to do anything to receive it. You might already see it pending in your bank account if you use direct deposit for tax returns. If you are expecting a return by a paper check in the mail, it will take a little bit longer to reach your mailbox.
Am I Eligible for the Refund?
- Some taxpayers who were not eligible for the initial $125 Automatic Taxpayer Refund will qualify for the $200 Automatic Taxpayer Refund.
- To qualify, for the $200 Automatic Taxpayer Refund, the taxpayer:
- must have received Social Security benefits in calendar year 2022
and- must not be claimed as a dependent on a 2022 Indiana income tax return.
Don't Fall For Scams
As we see every day, scammers try to find new ways to take our money. Here are some things to watch for, so that you don't get scammed out of your tax refund.
The Auditor of State’s Office and Indiana Department of Revenue remind Hoosiers to be mindful of potential scams regarding Automatic Taxpayer Refunds. All refunds will be issued by direct deposit or check. Individuals should ignore any texts, emails, or phone calls regarding these refunds, especially messages containing links or requesting personal or financial information such as Social Security or bank account numbers.
