It was fun while it lasted, but the time has come for Ronda Rousey and Floyd Mayweather to put the trash talk where it belongs, in the trash.

Ever since Mayweather claimed he didn't know who Rousey was, and she responded with a verbal jab at this year's ESPY's, then followed it up during a recent AMA on Reddit that should could beat "anyone" in a no-holds barred fight, the sports world has buzzed about what could happen if the two met in the ring for bout.

And now we need to stop.

This super fight, or whatever you want to call it, will never happen. And there's no need for it to. The only reason anyone wants it to happen is to see Mayweather get a dose of his own medicine and get flat knocked out by a woman. That's not a chance he's willing to take. Love him or hate him, he is sitting atop the mountain that is boxing and is one win away from tying Rocky Marciano 49-0 record, which he'll do in September when he takes on Andre Berto. While he says it will be his last fight, most people (myself included) believe he'll take one more next year so he can break the record and retire as arguably one of the best to ever step in the ring.

That's what Mayweather craves. The recognition. Don't get me wrong, despite being a piece of garbage out of the ring, you can't argue what he's accomplished inside it and the recognition he's received for those accomplishments is deserved. Any type of fight against Rousey, where there's potential to lose, tarnishes that forever. He wouldn't be Floyd Mayweather, the only boxer to go 50-0 and win numerous belts, he'd be Floyd Mayweather, the guy who lost to a woman (albeit, the baddest woman on the planet). Everything else would go right out the window. The risk of tarnishing his legacy does not outweigh whatever reward there would be in his mind.

As for Rousey, there's no career advantage to a fight with Mayweather. Outside of maybe being some kind of hero for victims of domestic violence who would love to punch their attackers in the mouth.

Let's say, for arguments sake, this fight were to take place, what's the story if Mayweather wins? What if he wins by knockout? The story then becomes, Rousey should have never taken this fight, this was an ill-advised publicity stunt from the word, "Go". Again, it goes back to the legacy. Rousey will more than likely retire undefeated, and will be known as the greatest female fighter ever. If you were in her shoes, would you rather be known that way, or "Hey, that Ronda Rousey was really good, BUT remember that time Floyd Mayweather knocked her around?"

So let's just all agree that while it may be fun to speculate what COULD happen, it won't happen, and it shouldn't. Everybody head back to your corners and just enjoy what each fighter has, and my accomplish moving forward.
