An Arizona-based produce company is taking action to ensure public safety. Eagle Produce LLC is voluntarily recalling 6,456 cases of whole cantaloupes due to potential Salmonella contamination. The decision follows a rigorous test conducted by the FDA on cantaloupes at a distribution center.

These cantaloupes were distributed between September 5th and 16th in multiple states, including Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, and Tennessee. They were available in various retail supermarkets.

Salmonella is a harmful bacteria that can lead to severe infections, especially in young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. Even healthy individuals may experience symptoms such as fever, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea (which can be bloody), and abdominal pain if exposed to Salmonella, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The Food and Drug Administration warns that in rare cases, the infection can spread to the bloodstream, causing more critical conditions like arterial infections, endocarditis, and arthritis.
