Indiana Non-Profit Launches Y & Eats Food Truck to Teach Financial Skills to Kids
Young & Established, an Evansville, Indiana non-profit organization, has taken a unique approach to teaching financial skills to children in the community.
More About Young & Established
Young & Established has done a tremendous job providing resources for the youth of our Southern Indiana community to help empower them to achieve their greatest potential and build their self-worth. The work that they do is imperative to the growth of our local community and is exhibited in the work they do every day.
It is the passionate desire of the Young & Established movement for youth and young adults to realize their self-worth and potential, establish and reach goals, become successful members of their communities, and to fulfill their dreams!
A New Endeavor: A Food Truck
Their latest endeavor, a food truck named "Y & Eats," is entirely operated by students participating in the program. Led by Courtney Johnson, Executive Director of Young & Established, this initiative aims to empower young individuals by imparting financial literacy while also providing them an opportunity to earn money.
We’re happy to announce our new program, Y&Eats! This food trailer will be run by our kids. This program will teach them about entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and help set them up to become successful entrepreneurs. #youngandestablished - Courtney Johnson, Executive Director of Young & Established
What to Expect at Y & Eats
Located on Vann Avenue, just outside the Young & Established youth resource center, Y & Eats offers a variety of snacks, including chips, soda, and the crowd favorite, the Oreo ice cream sandwich. The response from the community has been overwhelmingly positive, with customers praising the initiative and the professionalism displayed by the young entrepreneurs. Even the mayor took notice and provided encouraging feedback during Y & Eats' first major event at the 4th Annual Juneteenth Community Block Party.
Teaching Team Work and Accountability
Courtney Johnson expressed his delight with the project's success, emphasizing the importance of teaching children to work together and be accountable. The Y & Eats employees are not only learning valuable financial skills but also acquiring real-world problem-solving abilities through the challenges they encounter.
Finding Y & Eats
To keep the community informed and involved, Young & Established will regularly update the Y & Eats food truck schedule on Facebook. This allows supporters to locate and show their support for these inspiring young entrepreneurs.
Y & Eats not only provides tasty treats but also serves as a vehicle for fostering financial literacy and entrepreneurship among local children. With their dedication, determination, and the community's support, these young individuals are poised for success both in business and in life.
