Walmart, Target, and Dollar General Stores have confirmed they will be closing their doors for one day during the 2024 holiday season. This important closure will give employees a chance to fully enjoy the holidays with their loved ones—an initiative that speaks volumes about the companies' commitment to their teams.

Closed Christmas Day 2024

Walmart will be open on Christmas Eve from 6 am to 6 pm, which is convenient for those of us who always forget something. But, on Christmas Day all Walmart locations will be closed.

Target is also closing its stores on Christmas Day. Target’s CEO Brian Cornell announced this as part of the company's long-standing tradition of prioritizing employee welfare.

If you are used to popping into the Dollar General Store for the batteries or anything else that didn't make its way under the tree, you won't be able to do that on Christmas Day. I really thought that Dollar General Stores would be open on December 25, but for the sale of their employees, I'm glad they aren't.

Christmas Holiday Retail Miracle

Walmart, DG, and Target’s decision to close for Christmas 2024 reflects a growing trend among large retailers to prioritize the mental and emotional health of their employees. This shift is a win-win for everyone: employees get a well-deserved break, and customers still get plenty of time to shop for holiday deals.

Of course, you will find gas stations and convenience stores open on Christmas Day 2024, but that is about it. That isn't including the movie theatre which is always a great escape from the house!
