Christmas is coming early for the animals currently calling the Vanderburgh Humane Society home, as the shelter is waiving 100% of the adoption fees during their two day Home for the Holidays Adopt-A-Thon!

According to a press release from the Humane Society, the facility is hoping to empty the shelter just in time for the holidays so the animals in their care don't spend Christmas inside a cage.

The doors will open from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. both days, with the waived adoption fees applying to dogs, cats, and rabbits. The Society says there will be no puppies available.

According to a post promoting the event on the their Facebook page, this event will cost the Humane Society between "$10,000 to $25,000" meaning donations from local businesses and individuals are also crucial this time of year. If you, or someone you know is interested in donating to help cover the costs VHS will be not receive through the normal adoption fees, visit the Donate page of their website.

Despite the waived adoption fees during the two-day event, all animals adopted will still go through the standard adoption screenings and procedures, and will go home with their new owner spayed or neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on vaccinations for no additional cost.

For information on the event, visit the VHS website.
