United Caring Services just announced a major change that will help some of Evansville's most vulnerable residents. Beginning July 11, 2026, UCS will expand its White Flag program into a year-round service, providing safe shelter for people experiencing homelessness throughout every season.

White Flag Program Expands Beyond Winter

For a long time, the White Flag program has saved lives during dangerous weather conditions, offering a warm and secure place to stay when temperatures become life-threatening. With this expansion, that support won't be limited to extreme weather. Instead, individuals in need will have more consistent access to a safe place to rest and connect with services that can help them move toward long-term stability.

United Caring Services says the decision reflects its ongoing commitment to treating every person with dignity, compassion, and respect while responding to the growing needs within the community.

A Community Partnership to Address Homelessness

The organization won't be doing it alone. UCS will continue partnering with the City of Evansville, ECHO Housing, and the Commission on Homelessness to strengthen the area's response to homelessness. Together, those organizations will work to connect people not only with emergency shelter, but also with resources and support designed to help them build a more stable future.

Supporting the Goals of Destination: Home 2030

The expansion also marks an important milestone in Destination: Home 2030, the Commission on Homelessness's five-year strategic plan focused on ending homelessness in Evansville and Vanderburgh County. By increasing access to emergency shelter, community leaders hope more people can receive immediate protection while also finding pathways to permanent housing and supportive services.
