A Bare Christmas Tree Sets The Stage For Thanksgiving Joy
My Christmas Traditions That Make the Holidays Feel Like Home
My Christmas traditions stand tall—like, taller than my actual Christmas tree. Honestly, all of my holiday habits are a huge part of what makes me *me*. I grew up with parents who took the holidays **very** seriously, so now at 24, if I skip even one tiny part of my decorating routine, I feel… off. Like the holiday season is tilted just a little to the left.
The “Weird” Way I Put Up My Christmas Tree
I was telling my coworkers the other day about one of my “weird” Christmas tree habits—though I personally think it’s genius. I have this big white main tree that always goes right in the living room. And on **November 1st**, that thing comes out of storage and goes straight up.
But here’s where people raise an eyebrow:
I don’t put any decorations on it.
Not a single ornament. Not a ribbon. Not even one lonely candy cane.
It just sits there. Bare. Glowing. Waiting.
Why I Leave My Tree Bare Until Thanksgiving
And yes, I know that sounds bizarre...why would I put up a tree and not decorate it? Well… it’s like I’m teasing myself with what’s to come. Plus, I think Thanksgiving gets overlooked way too often. Letting the tree stand undecorated feels like a nod to Thanksgiving before the Christmas chaos takes over completely.
There’s just something so cozy about turning on the lights Thanksgiving morning, watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, and letting that little moment kick off the holiday vibes. Then later—after your belly is full, football is on, and the house smells like pumpkin pie—that’s when the real decorating begins. It’s warm, it’s relaxed, it’s tradition. And honestly, it’s perfect every year.
And if halfway through decorating I get tired or overwhelmed? Easy fix. I plop down, grab some leftovers, and turn on 'Planes, Trains, and Automobiles'. Because if that movie doesn’t scream Thanksgiving comfort, nothing does.
These traditions might be quirky, but they’re mine—and I wouldn’t change a single one.
