SHELBYVILLE, Ind. (AP) — Authorities say a young jockey has died after he was injured during a race at a central Indiana horse racing track.

Indiana Grand Racing and Casino in Shelbyville says the horse ridden by 17-year-old Juan Saez clipped heels with a horse in front of him during a race Tuesday evening.

Marion County chief deputy coroner Alfarena Ballew tells The Indianapolis Star and WRTV that Saez died late Tuesday after being airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital.

Officials at the track about 15 miles southeast of Indianapolis say the horse Saez was riding was euthanized after the collision and that no other riders needed hospitalization. Indiana Grand says Saez was apprentice rider from Panama.

The track says the collision is being reviewed by the Indiana Horse Racing Commission.
