Why is the most popular Valentine's Day Candy "Sweethearts"  with those cute little sayings like "Kiss Me," "Be Mine," "Marry Me" and more not available in stores this year?

Necco, which is short for the New England Confectionery Company had produced Sweethearts since 1886 and wasn't able to keep the operation open.

The Spangler Candy Company purchased Necco in late September 2018 and confirmed that Sweethearts will return hopefully next year.

“We wish we could have Sweethearts out for the 2019 Valentine season, but it’s just not possible. We are committed to making sure these brands meet consumer expectations when they re-enter the market. Doing it right takes time.”

The CEO of Spangler, Kirk Vashaw, confirmed that SweetHearts are set to return. “We are looking forward to announcing the relaunch of Sweethearts for the 2020 Valentine’s Day season.”

If you happen to discover any Sweethearts products online they are leftover from previous years.  Be sure to check the candy expiration dates!

CandyStore.com has been in touch with the Spangler Candy company and acknowledged that as of January 24, 2019, production has not yet begun.  Spangler sent a statement spelling out "Miss U" "Wait 4 Me" and "Back Soon" in response to the affection and disappointment for not producing everyone's favorite Valentine's Day candy.
