Starbucks Is Closing 250 Stores, Here’s What Indiana Needs to Know
Starbucks Is Closing Hundreds of Stores, What About Indiana?
If Starbucks is part of your morning routine, you may have seen the headlines lately and immediately wondered: Is my Starbucks closing?
Starbucks is once again trimming its number of stores across North America, with the coffee giant announcing plans to close approximately 250 coffeehouses as part of its ongoing “Back to Starbucks” strategy. That works out to roughly 1% of the company’s more than 18,000 locations across North America.
According to Starbucks, the company reviewed its stores and identified locations where it doesn’t believe it can consistently provide the experience it wants for customers and employees, or where it doesn’t see a path to acceptable financial performance. Most of the latest closures were expected to happen by the end of the company’s 2026 fiscal year.

What Does This Mean for Indiana?
Here’s where things get a little confusing.
Starbucks has not released a comprehensive official list of all 250 locations included in this latest round. News organizations have instead been piecing together the closures as individual stores disappear from Starbucks’ locator or confirm that they are shutting down.
Indiana has already lost Starbucks locations during the company’s previous round of cuts.
A Starbucks at 1906 U.S. Highway 41 in Schererville closed in September 2025. The former Starbucks at 2732 N. State Road 9 in Greenfield, near I-70, also closed during that same round.
So, while those are two confirmed Indiana Starbucks closures, they are not part of the newly announced September 2026 group of roughly 250 stores.
As of now, I have not found a confirmed Indiana location among the stores identified in this newest round.

Why Is Starbucks Closing Stores?
Interestingly, Starbucks isn't saying it's simply trying to shrink.
The company says the closures are part of a larger effort to improve its coffeehouses. At the same time, Starbucks is remodeling existing stores and says it still sees significant opportunities for future growth in North America.

For employees at stores affected by the latest closures, Starbucks says it will try to offer transfers to nearby locations when possible. Employees who can't be placed elsewhere will be offered severance support.
So for now, Indiana Starbucks fans don't necessarily need to panic over this newest announcement, but considering how quickly these closures are being identified, it might be worth keeping an eye on your usual coffee stop.
