If you’ve lived in Evansville for more than about five minutes, you’ve probably referred to where we live as Southern Indiana or Southwestern Indiana at some point. It’s just the easiest way to sum up our little cluster of cities without having to list them one by one. Between Evansville, Newburgh, Boonville, Mount Vernon, Princeton, and the rest of our neighbors, it’s a whole crew down here. But did you know Indiana actually has regional names beyond just “North,” “South,” and “That Place We Go For Concerts?”

I came across this map that breaks Indiana into six specific regions, each with its own vibe and set of cities. And honestly, it’s kind of fascinating. Someone, at some point, sat down and said, “Here’s where one region ends and another begins,” and apparently gave them names. Now, whether these are official, historical, made-up-on-a-Thursday, or blessed by the State of Indiana itself is unclear. Try searching for answers and you’ll find…basically nothing. It’s like the regional map of Indiana just walked out of the cornfield one day and said, “Hey. I exist.”

The 6 Regions of Indiana

One region in particular caught my eye – the Northwest corner of the state is referred to as “Da Region.” Yes, spelled exactly like that. And according to SouthShoreCVA.com, that’s actually what it’s called. It’s part of the Chicago metro area spillover, super diverse, lots of culture, and proudly known as Da Region. And honestly? I kind of love that for them.

Meanwhile, here we are in “Southern Indiana.” Very practical. Very functional. But could we spice it up a little? Like…“The River Bottom Kingdom”? “Tri-State Tropics”? “The Friendly Food-and-Festivals Zone”?
