Indiana Department of Transportation

The Indiana Department of Transportation (or INDOT) is in charge of building and maintaining roads in the state of Indiana, as their mission states:

Collaboratively plan, build, and maintain safe and innovative transportation infrastructure that enhances quality of life, drives economic growth, and accommodates new modes of transport.

During the winter months, INDOT helps make sure roads are clear of snow and safe to be driven on during winter weather.   INDOT recently shared on Facebook about an app they have that has a lot of really handy features!

INDOT TrafficWise

If you open up your app store and search for "trafficwise" it'll bring up the free INDOT app, you'll know it's the right one because it has the state of Indiana on it.  I gave the app a download and it is pretty dang handy! First off I am kind of stoked to watch the plow cams in the winter, that would definitely be a cool way to check road conditions, without actually getting on the road.  The app also has some other cool features like letting you know where road closures are happening and why.

I decided to play around with the app a little bit and even though there isn't any winter weather at the moment (thank goodness) there were some really cool features.

I opened the app up here at the station, and it had the option to select the surrounding area, it then told me everywhere there was a road issue within a small radius of the station.

This is where it gets kind of fun, I decided to tap where it says "6 reports near me"  and it gave me a rundown of all of the reports.

In the words of the legendary Billy Mayes "but wait! there's more!"  I decided to tap on the little "no" circle on US 41, and I could even see a live traffic cam!

This app will definitely come in handy! They also have places on the app that make it easy to contact INDOT if you see an issue.  If you want to check out this app for yourself or stick it in your back pocket for when we have winter weather, you can download it from the app store or Google Play just search "Trafficwise" and it will bring it up!
