Let's Talk About Where to Live in Evansville

Funny story, I was actually considering moving about a month ago. I will spare you all the details and just say I am staying put for now. But not being originally from the area and actually living here are two very different things, and when you start exploring different neighborhoods, apartments, townhouses, and counties, it opens your eyes real fast.

So, it got me thinking. If you are looking to buy a home, relocate to a new part of the city, or just curious about how your neighborhood stacks up, safety is usually one of the first things on your mind. And honestly, it should be. Evansville is a city with a lot of great people and a lot of great areas, but like any city, some neighborhoods are safer than others.

I did some digging, both in person and online, and I wanted to put together something you can actually come back to if you are ever curious about the best places to live in Evansville. I pulled verified crime data to bring you the neighborhoods that have earned the highest safety ratings in the city. According to the numbers, these are the areas consistently rising to the top.

North Country Club comes in at number two with its own A+ rating. It is exactly the kind of neighborhood people picture when they think about a safe, quiet, residential stretch of Evansville. Solid schools, good neighbors, and a track record that speaks for itself.

Reitz Hill rounds out the top three with an A+ safety rating as well. If you have spent any time in Evansville you probably already know this neighborhood has a loyal following. People who grow up on Reitz Hill tend to stay connected to it for life, and the data backs up what residents have always known.

5. Poplar Grove

Poplar Grove rounds out our top five with an A+ safety rating of its own. It is a quieter, residential area that consistently holds its own when it comes to safety data, and it is worth serious consideration if you are in the market.

What the Overall Data Tells Us

Here is something that might actually surprise you. Out of 54 neighborhoods analyzed, 83 percent received an A or B grade for safety, meaning the overwhelming majority of Evansville neighborhoods are actually quite safe. That's pretty great if you ask me. You don't always see the same narrative about other cities and the numbers don't lie.

Yes, there are pockets with higher crime levels, particularly in areas like Old Erie and Center City, and it is important to be aware of that. But the data paints a picture of a city where most neighborhoods are solid, and the best ones are genuinely great places to call home.

So What Does This Mean For You?

Whether you are house hunting, helping a friend figure out where to land, or just want to know more about your city, this list is a great starting point. Evansville has more going for it than people sometimes give it credit for, and neighborhoods like these are a big part of that story. If you want to dig deeper into the numbers for your specific street or area, crimegrade.org has an interactive crime map for Evansville that lets you look up individual neighborhoods and see exactly how they rate.
