Riverside Relay Marathon This Saturday, July 25th
From the Evansville Sports Corporation
The Evansville Sports Corp is hosting the inaugural Riverside Relay Marathon Saturday, July 25 at 7pm on Riverside Dr. The course consists of a 1.09 mile loop between Cherry St. and Vine St. where teams of up to 20 runners will complete 24 laps for a full marathon distance.
More than 300 runners will be competing in this first year event with more than 35 total teams. The event is also helping raise money for charity through the Non-Profit Challenge. Five local charities have entered the contest to compete for a prize pool of more than $3,000 while also raising awareness and funds for their cause.
Those charities competing in the Non-Profit Challenge include The Boys and Girls Club, Tri State MS Association, United Way of SWI, the YMCA and Youth First. More than $10,000 has been raised for these charities already and donations are still coming in. If you would like to support one of these charities (or add to the prize pool); you can do so by visiting www.evansvillesports.org and clicking on 'Donate here.'
"We wanted to create a signature event for Evansville that showcased our beautiful riverfront while promoting health and wellness, teamwork and community engagement," said Jason Sands, Executive Director of the Evansville Sports Corporation.
In addition to the Non-Profit Challenge, nine local companies will be competing in the Corporate Charity Challenge in which they will compete against each other for prizes in the following categories: Team Spirit, Best Fundraiser and Best Time. Companies competing include: Vectren, Toyota, Old National Bank, Deaconess, Victoria National, Springleaf, United Companies, KDDK and Kitch & Schreiber.
Prior to the Riverside Relay Marathon, 40 lb Sledgehammer Productions is hosting a criterium race called 'The Burning Quad' on the same course. The cycling event will feature amateur and professional racers competing throughout the day in a series of different events. Both events are free and open to the public.
