The Tri-State will be well-represented at the IHSAA Girls Swimming and Diving State Championship this weekend. Congratulations are definitely in order for all of the student athletes from Reitz, Memorial and Castle high school.

One young lady in particular, Reitz junior Elise Umbach, is following in the footsteps - or maybe I should say the breaststroke - of the most successful swimmers in Reitz (or even the entire Tri-State) history...LILLY KING.

Elise is the first swimmer from Reitz to make it to the state championship since Lilly King did it back in 2015. King has had a 'pretty successful' career in the pool since then...just a handful of 2016 Olympic medals and a trip back to the 2020 Olympics.

Miss Umbach will compete in two events this weekend - the 200-meter IM (individual medley) and the 100-meter breast stroke. And she's not the only water bug in her family. Her cousin, Ellie Kemper (pictured, far right, below), is one of three Reitz divers heading to state. Kemper is joined by Valorie Marx and Madison Rollett as the lone divers from the Tri-State. Awesome!

The IHSAA state competition begins on Friday, February 14th and continues on Saturday, February 15th at the Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis. Single session tickets are less than $10, if you feel like a road trip to support these talented young women. You can also watch online at IHSAAtv.org.
