Stock Up on These Foods to Help Boost Immune System
We're all concerned about the outbreak of the coronavirus. If you're making the decision to stay home a little more, you'll want to stock up on foods that help keep our immune systems healthier and stronger.
If you’re heading out to the grocery store for food and other supplies, be sure to stock up on some of these items to help boost your immune system and to keep it in tip top shape:
- Fruits - citrus is packed with vitamin C; oranges, grapefruits, lemons, limes, kiwi, etc. Canned fruits - applesauce, pineapple, peaches, pears; Frozen - berries, mangoes; Dried fruit - raisins, prunes, figs, apricots, etc.
- Vegetables - peppers (red is best with the most Vitamin C), broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, spinach, etc. Canned veggies - tomatoes, pumpkin, olives; Frozen - any - spinach, butternut squash; Dried veggies - kale, beets, carrots
- Protein - chicken, shrimp, fish; canned beans, canned fish, chickpeas, lentil pasta, seeds, nuts, dried roasted beans, cheese, eggs, milk
- Grains/Alternatives - single ingredient grains (steel cut oats, quinoa, brown rice), pasta (whole grain), flours (chickpea flour, almond flour and whole-grain flour); breads (whole grain); crackers (whole grain, seed, nut-based); cereal (whole grain, low-added sugar and fiber-full cereals); popcorn
- Mushrooms - neither a vegetable or fruit - high in selenium and B vitamins like riboflavin and niacin.
