I kind of feel like this is only something that could happen to me, but since I could not possibly be the only one to be scammed through a pizza app, I must share my story.

Your Pizza is on its Way

I was just scrolling through my email at work and came across an email from Papa Johns's letting me know that my order would be delivered soon. Cool, except that I didn't order any pizzas, especially not one with spicey sausage. I assumed that this was a spam email, so of course, I clicked on it.

This took me straight to my Papa John's app and there was the order for 2 pizzas getting ready to be delivered to LAS VEGAS, NEVADA. There was a delivery address and a pizza shop in Vegas to call with any issues. So, that's what I did.

Evansville Calling Vegas

The nice but skeptical lady on the phone listen to me explain this very strange situation that I am in Evansville, Indiana. I've never been to Vegas and I definitely did not order pizza there or anywhere. She has the order under my name and my phone number. So weird. She canceled the order but the mystery continued.

Rolling the Dice on Another Order

Just a few minutes later, I received a call from the Papa John's in Vegas letting me know that the same order just came through again. What in the world! I did ask if they could deliver the order and just see who this person was, but they couldn't do that of course. After that order was canceled, I took some precautions to make sure this doesn't keep happening

  • Changed Password in the App
  • Removed All Payment Options
  • I did the same for my Amazon account just to be safe.

The bottom line is that we should all change our passwords frequently, and don't use the same password for everything. I am so much better at telling you this than actually doing it myself - Obviously.
