This is a big one.  One of the biggest youth basketball recruiting leagues will not hold any events this year.  Due to the Coronavirus pandemic and current health concerns, Nike announced they will be canceling all Elite Youth League Basketball events for 2020.

This means that the previously scheduled Nike Tournament of Champions in Indianapolis will not be happening.  The event was scheduled to take place on July 6-8 and July 10-12 at the Indiana Convention Center.  The Cancelation also affects one of the biggest recruiting events of the year for college basketball teams, Peach Jam.  Which usually takes place in North Augusta, South Carolina.

This is taken from the statement made by the league on the homepage of their website.  It’s unfortunate to see especially since this affects so many different people.  The EYLB is one of, if not the most, prominent AAU leagues there is.  Some of the nation’s top basketball talent participates in this league for more exposure and a better chance of earning a spot on a college basketball team.  The League did announce they will make an adjustment for coaches to be able to still see potential recruits.

“We understand EYBL has provided a platform for intense competition, showcased some of the sport’s greatest talent, and gathered a strong community to celebrate their shared love for the game. To fill the void of play, we are creating an access-only, online portal of game footage for coaches, launching in June.”

Luckily, they are making adjustments so athletes can still be looked at.  Some more options on seeing potential recruits may surface in the fall bit for the time being, as with a lot of things, video will have to do.
