While it would take some time to reach Dollar General territory, it feels like we've seen a number of new automatic car washes pop up in and around Evansville over the past few years. It seems that trend may continue in 2023 with news that another new car wash company is looking to set up shop on Evansville's east side in a spot that, to me, is hard to picture a car wash sitting on.

Take 5 Car Wash Looking to Build at the Corner of Burkhardt and Vogel in Evansville

According to Evansville 411 News on Facebook, LKASAM Investments, LLC has filed a rezoning request with the Evansville City Council to build a Take 5 Car Wash on the lot currently occupied by the building that for many years was home to the Diamond Galleria jewelry store. The first reading of the company's request was expected to be addressed during Monday evening's council meeting.

A "First Reading" means an individual or company (LKASAM Investments, in this case) filed paperwork with the City Clerk to have their request presented to the Council, and that the clerk has included said request in the Council's meeting agenda, according to the Evansville government website. Requested rezoning ordinances like this one are typically covered during the Council's first meeting each month. Here's where it goes from there:

Ordinances receive two readings over the course of two consecutive City Council meetings. These readings are referred to as “First Reading” and “Second Reading”. Exceptions are ordinances requiring a public hearing and recommendation from another board or commission prior to Second Reading (final reading) such as Rezoning Ordinances. Discussion among City Council and a public comment period occur on the night of Second Reading and is followed by a call for vote for final action.

IF the council approves the ordinance at some point down the road and grants LKASAM Investments the ability to build the car wash on the site, it will be the fourth car wash on Burkhardt Road joining Finish Line near the intersection of Burkhardt and Morgan Avenue, the Moto Mart at the intersection of Burkhardt and Virginia Street and the other Moto Mart a quarter-mile south at the intersection of Burkhard and the Lloyd Expressway. When you factor in the handful of car wash options just one mile west on Green River Road between Lynch Road and Covert Avenue, finding a place to give your vehicle a much-needed shine shouldn't be a problem.
