National Recognition for DCHS Cadet’s Academic Achievement
Right off the bat, let's congratulate Samuel Manqueros, a cadet lieutenant commander who serves as chief of staff officer for the Daviess County High School NJROTC.
Samuel maintains a 3.609 GPA and a 3.96 Naval Science GPA. Very impressive.
So impressive is Lt. Cmdr. Manqueros that he has been honored with the Joseph C. Gilliam Academic Achievement Award and Cadet Achievement Ribbon "in recognition of demonstrating academic excellence and superior leadership."
The letter of commendation came from retired U.S. Navy Commander J.W. Hankins, also the Area 3 Manager of NJROTC. Area 3, by the way, includes Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, West Virginia, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, and North and South Dakota.
Commander Hankins' letter acknowledges Manqueros as the top senior in Area 3.
Samuel is also a member of the National Honor Society and the DCHS CyberPatriot team, the reigning state champs for two years running. In addition, he's a member of the orienteering team that finished seventh nationally in 2019. Samuel is also a Kentucky Boys State representative.
Manqueros plans to attend Norfolk State University in Virginia where he will major in chemistry.
