Mayor Terry Announces Free METS Bus Rides for Evansville Youth This Summer
Summer just got a whole lot easier for Evansville families! Mayor Stephanie Terry has announced a brand new initiative that’s all about helping local kids stay active, involved, and on the go - without worrying about how they’ll get there.
What Is “My Summer Ride”?
Introducing My Summer Ride - a pilot program offering free METS bus rides to youth all across the city from June 2 through August 2, 2025. Whether it’s getting to a summer job, a camp, the library, or just spending a day at the park, this program opens up all kinds of possibilities for Evansville kids and teens.
Any young person under the age of 18, plus high school students over 18, can get METS bus rides at no cost. Kids 12 and under will need to ride with an adult. It’s part of the city’s Safe Summer initiative, focused on giving kids safe, reliable access to the places that help them grow and thrive.
Why It Matters for Evansville Families
Mayor Terry explains why this program is so important to her and the city...
This program is about more than just transportation. My Summer Ride is about expanding opportunity. It’s about making sure every young person in our city can get to a job, a summer camp, or the library, regardless of whether they have a car or a ride. We’re supporting working families, fostering youth independence, and building the next generation of METS riders.

How to Get a Free METS Pass
Families can pick up free METS bus passes at the CK Newsome Center, METS Station, or any public city pool. And to help get passes in the right hands, the city is also working with local youth-focused organizations. Students who look older than 18 should bring a school ID or report card just in case.

My Summer Ride supports several of Mayor Terry’s goals - like youth development, public safety, and economic opportunity - by making sure transportation isn’t a barrier to success.
