More disappointing news for the St. Louis Cardinals as they not only lose a heart breaker in extra innings on Thursday, but they also lose their slugging left fielder.

Holliday was hit by a pitch in the 10th inning of Thursday night's game at Wrigley Field. Holliday had to leave the game, and the Cards ended up walking in the winning run for the Cubs in the bottom of the 11th.

The prognosis is not good. Holliday has a fractured thumb and is now on the DL. A date for his return is still unknown.

The Redbirds continue a 4-game series against the Cubs this weekend at Wrigley, and you can hear both games here on ESPN Evansville 105.3. Coverage of Saturday's game begins at 12:25pm...and coverage on Sunday begins at 6:10pm.
