This Former Kentucky Disco Ball Factory is Now a Boutique Hotel
My Fabulous Ladies Reading Club gals and I are always looking for cool places that would make great weekend getaways. We've gotten snowed in at a gorgeous cabin in Nashville, Indiana. The Storehouse in Grandview, Indiana is a renovated church that is the perfect spot to relax for a couple of days.
One of my favorite trips involved a VERY adventurous night out in Louisville after dinner at Ramsi's Cafe on the World and cocktails at ShopBar. We were more than the karaoke hole-in-the-wall pub bargained for, I'll just say that! Our friend, Libby, one of the Fabulous Ladies lives in the Ville. We want to go visit her and whoop it up again but need to find a cool place to stay.
The other day, I came upon a video of a new hotel in the Highlands area that looked bright and beautiful with a hint of vintage. The Myriad Hotel is a fabulous spot with an even more fabulous history. That's because it was once a disco ball factory! Apparently, during the 1970s, 90 percent of disco balls around the world were manufactured in Louisville, KY.
Nods to this mirrorball history can be found all over the hotel. From an installation in the lobby to a party elevator that would make Hop Shop's disco bathroom jealous, to the name itself, this party palace is the place to be.
Did you know that disco balls date further back than Donna Summer or Studio 54? The first known patent is from Newport, KY in 1917 when it was called a myriad reflector.
The Myriad Hotel has 65 beautiful rooms, a gorgeous pool area with fun bold colors where they often host parties with DJs and performers, a coffee shop, and a restaurant called Paseo that has gotten some stellar reviews. Guests can make it a staycation and never leave the building, or check out the unique shopping, bars, and restaurants close by. The Highlands never disappoint!
And whatta ya know? They even have the perfect slumber party room for my book club to stay in!
