The cliche saying about a picture being worth a thousand words is used so often because it's true. Especially when the subject matter is the beauty of nature. Blooming flowers, rushing rivers, and wildlife all add to the story of the shot.

Corey Wilson of Owensboro, Kentucky, has developed an incredible eye for freezing a moment in time with his photography. The first time I saw one of his pictures, it came across my Facebook feed after being shared by a mutual friend. My jaw dropped! Although it was still on my screen, I could feel the action. The drama of the scene.

Employed at Kimberly-Clark, Corey is married to his lovely wife Ashton and father to two kiddos. He spends his free time outdoors either on his boat or duck hunting, which is what inspired his new-ish hobby back in 2022. "I saw a few pictures on my Instagram feed of hunting dogs with ducks and thought it would be cool if I could take those pictures."

After searching Marketplace to find a camera, he turned to YouTube to learn some basics. He's only been honing his craft for three years and is already this talented, so I would say he has a natural instinct for his art. Although he also gives a lot of props to his friends.

"I am fortunate enough to have photography buddies to help me learn." He shared, "Since I’ve started, all I’ve wanted to do is hunting photography and videos. I’ve been able to get a lot of practice at Camp Canine with Jordan Camp to practice the fast-paced style with his dogs that he trains." Like this photo he took of Tilly doing her thing.

Kentucky Living 2025 Photo Contest

I imagine it takes a lot of patience, and I know it took a lot of practice to learn how to “freeze time” the way Corey does. That perserverance has paid off though! His photo of Tilly was chosen out of over 2,000 that were submitted to be featured on the cover of Kentucky Living. And he isn't stopping. He'd love to share his photography and videos with other magazines and brands.

And you can help him win the top People's Choice award by voting on the Kentucky Living website. Keep scrolling to see more beautiful photos by Corey.
