In 2022, Daymon Ward of Owensboro decided that it was time to take his love of Halloween to the next level. That year, he constructed a functional 'haunted' roller coaster in his front yard. And, yes! It actually worked. People could ride it.

The coaster proved to be a major hit and Daymon and his wife Karla quickly realized that their new Halloween display had become one of the most popular in Daviess County. One year later, it got even bigger.

As you can see, 'bigger' was an understatement. The Ward's front yard was populated with gigantic ghouls, goblins, thrills, and chills.

In 2024, Daymon decided Deadwood Manor needed a full-size haunted house. So, he built one and guests were treated to an exciting and, at times, scary trip through the halls of it.

This year, Daymon has constructed a haunted pirate ship! He saw a similar one online, so he decided he and Karla needed one of their own.

Well, they have it!

Daymon's initial plans called for a 37-foot ship. When the construction was finally finished, the ship ended up being almost 50-feet long. As you can see from the photo, it's nearly the length and height of their house.

If you noticed the flags on the mast, Daymon made those too. He purchased some black cloth from Hobby Lobby, found a cool pirate image on the internet, then stenciled the pirate skull and crossbones onto the fabric. They flags are now flying proudly atop the ship.

Deadwood Manor 2025 will open to the public on Friday, October 3rd. Each Friday and Saturday in October, there will be interactive shows in the Ward's front yard. "The Pirates of the Deadwood Sea" will have showtimes at 7pm, 7:30pm, and 8pm.

Daymon says the show lasts ten minutes and will feature music from Star Wars and The Pirates of the Caribbean. Of course, that show will be loaded up with CO2 cannon blasts, rolling fog, and fireballs!

To be exact, the ship is outfitted with two CO2 cannons that will shoot air and smoke at the audience.

Plus, the ship is equipped with a 'massive interior fog machine and four flame towers that shoot live fireballs' into the air. Daymon is currently in the testing phase of those special effects to make sure they're ready for opening night.

Ava Thomson, a young girl from the neighborhood (and a huge Deadwood Manor fan), came down for a special sneak preview of the pyrotechnics. She said, "That is so freaking cool."

Also cool is the fact that the Ward's popular haunted house is coming back too! Daymon promises some extra "special surprises" in there too.

Deadwood Manor is located at 4661 Thruston Dermont Road in Owensboro.

LOOK: How Halloween has changed in the past 100 years

Stacker compiled a list of ways that Halloween has changed over the last 100 years, from how we celebrate it on the day to the costumes we wear trick-or-treating. We’ve included events, inventions, and trends that changed the ways that Halloween was celebrated over time. Many of these traditions were phased out over time. But just like fake blood in a carpet, every bit of Halloween’s history left an impression we can see traces of today.
