As the proud dad to three rescue dogs, I can't stress the importance of this event enough. Daviess County Animal Care & Control is teaming up with the BISSEL Pet Foundation's 'Empty the Shelters' adoption event and it gets underway today.

The BISSELL Pet Foundation's motto is "Until every pet has a home" and, to date, has helped save the lives of nearly 800,000 animals. Hopefully, that number is going to increase this week because of the 'Empty the Shelter' initiative here in Daviess County, Kentucky.

Starting today (Tuesday, July 23rd) through Tuesday, July 30th, Daviess County Animal Care & Control is waiving adoption fees for adult dogs and cats, 10 months and older. As Cathy Bissell, Founder of BISSELL Pet Foundation, says, "Every single adoption saves a life and creates a space to save another. Please adopt and give a pet a chance it might otherwise not have."

I can attest that pet adoption is so rewarding. My three rescues- Ellie, Yogi and Simon- are the hearts of our house. I can't imagine what their lives (or mine) would have been without the opportunity to welcome them to our home.
