It's impossible to grow up in Kentucky and not hear about the legend of Bigfoot. I was raised just outside the city limits of Owensboro and my own county, Daviess, ranks inside the Top 10 of counties in Kentucky with the most Bigfoot sightings.

I'm not sure I was ever fully convinced there was a Bigfoot, but my childhood friends and I were certainly convinced there could be. I remember heading out into the woods on multiple occasions to see if we could find him, or at least a trace of him.  We didn't. The closest encounter I had came courtesy of two of my favorite TV shows.

I still remember this Bionic Woman and Six Million Dollar Man crossover episode like it was released yesterday.

Well, now, Bigfoot is making another fun pop culture appearance. In February, the Manhattan Theatre Club will debut Bigfoot! A New Musical.

Here's how the show's described online:

Set in the town of Muddirt, a glow-in-the-dark oasis that exists somewhere between a chemical dump site and a nuclear power plant, BIGFOOT! is a larger-than-life musical tale of corrupt politicians, small town paranoia and misunderstood youth.

The show was written by Amber Ruffin and Kevin Sciretta. David Schmoll wrote the score. The show has been through a variety of workshops over the last decade or so and now it's ready to make its Off-Broadway debut at the New York City Center.

Here's a sample of a really early incarnation from the show.

Bigfoot! A New Musical opens on February 11th, 2026 for an 8-week limited run.
