Local baker, Hanna Bailey, makes magic in her Doozie Doez kitchen. I would say the awards for Best Bakery are proof, but once you try her sweet treats, you understand. If you know, you know. Not only do they taste incredible, but they look beautiful too!

She has been in the game since 2019, but before Easter, she taught her first cake decorating class. "I have always wanted to help others learn to make fun cakes. I enjoy doing it and love being able to share what I have learned and taught myself with others.

While Hannah doesn't love being in the spotlight, she is really good at sharing her passion with others. "I had to step out of my comfort zone. I decided this year that I wanted to add new things to Doozie and felt I was at a place where I could share my knowledge and help others. I had my first class last week and it was a blast. Everyone left with the most precious cake for the Easter holiday," she said.

As you can see from the picture, they created a cute bunny! Hanna told me, "For my first class, I only crumb-coated the cakes. Everyone iced their cakes and had to smooth out the frosting themselves. It was comical listening to the ladies talk about how hard it was. A couple of them kept telling me my job was secured because they couldn’t figure it out. It is hard if you’ve never done it."

Decorating is a skill that definitely comes more easily for some than others, but everyone still had a blast. Hannah's favorite technique is piping beautiful flowers. "I learn something new about flowers all the time. It gets better with practice, and once I see improvement, it makes me so happy. I’ve been slowly teaching myself to paint flowers on cakes with a palette knife. It’s not as easy as using real paint and a flat surface."

See! Even the master is improving her skills all the time! Hanna is excited to continue offering more decorating and dessert classes in the next few weeks. She already has a “Build-Your-Own” dessert board class for Friday, May 2nd, the day before Derby. The delicious results will be Derby-themed and perfect if you're hosting guests to watch the run for the roses the following Saturday.

"It will be like a dessert buffet, and you can choose what you’d like to fill your board up. I’m super excited for that one." For more information on future classes and to sign up for some frosting fun, follow her Doozie Doez page on Facebook.
