When you think of real estate that costs an arm and a leg in Illinois, you probably think of the Chicago suburbs.

It's for a good reason: Some of Illinois' most expensive zip codes are on the North Shore, not far from Lake Michigan.

RealtyHop listed the Most Expensive U.S. Zip Codes in 2024 and said these are the top three in Illinois.

Winnetka (60093): $1.53 Million

As the third most expensive zip code in Illinois, Winnetka comes in at $1.53 million.

You may have heard of this town a time or two because it's the same place where movies like Home Alone are filmed.

Winnetka's big homes and great schools make this Chicago suburb a magnet for well-off families.

Glencoe (60022): $1.63 Million

Glencoe is not too far ahead of Winnetka, whose median price is $1.63 million.

With gorgeous lakefront properties and a quaint downtown, this community combines upscale living with a tight-knit neighborhood feel.

Kenilworth (60043): $2.35 Million

Kenilworth is far and away the most expensive zip code in Illinois, with a staggering median home price of $2.35 million.

Picture it: historic mansions and well-manicured laws while flashing a classic "old money" vibe.

What About Rockford?

In Rockford, things couldn't be any different from Kenilworth, Glencoe, or Winnetka.

Here, median home prices hover around $150,000, which is insanely cheap compared to Chicago's coveted North Shore.

That's not a bad thing. Actually, it's a big selling point for anyone looking to put down roots in Illinois at an affordable price.

So sure, Kenilworth has some mansions that would make anyone drool. There's something so much more satisfying about finding your forever home in a town that fits your budget. For my money, it's the Rockford area.
