Indiana Arts Grants Bring New Mural Project To Newburgh
A statewide investment in the arts is bringing new creative energy to communities across Indiana, including right here in Warrick County.
The Indiana Arts Commission has awarded $206,164 in grant funding to 53 nonprofit organizations and public entities through its Fiscal Year 2026 Fall Arts Project Support grant program. The funding will support arts projects across the Hoosier State, from performances and programming to public art initiatives.
Newburgh Awarded Funding For Public Murals
A portion of that funding is headed to the Town of Newburgh, which has been awarded a $4,000 grant to support a new 2026 Murals Project.

According to Newburgh Town Administrative Manager Chris Cooke, the project will focus on bringing public art to the town for the first time.
“Newburgh currently has no public art within the town limits,” Cooke said. “The goal of the 2026 Murals Project is to produce two murals with the input and feedback of the community. The murals will highlight the cultural identity and history of the community and foster civic pride.”
Community Input At The Center Of The Project
The planned murals will be developed with direct community involvement, allowing residents to help shape the stories, themes, and history reflected in the artwork. Town leaders say the project is intended not only to beautify public spaces but also to create a sense of shared ownership and pride.
By highlighting Newburgh’s cultural identity and local history, the murals are expected to become lasting landmarks within the community.
About The Arts Project Support Grants
The Arts Project Support grants are designed to help Indiana nonprofit organizations and public entities fund specific arts projects or activities. The program is facilitated in partnership with the Indiana Arts Commission’s Regional Arts Partners, who work alongside the agency to expand participation in the arts statewide.
The Indiana General Assembly and the National Endowment for the Arts provide funding for the Indiana Arts Commission and its programs.
