Fall is the perfect time to take a drive and connect with nature as the colors change into an explosion of fiery hues of red and orange. Three Indiana State Parks are the perfect place to explore the autumnal changes.

A recent survey of 3,000 people, shared by Mixbook, has detailed the hidden fall foliage gems across the country. While many of those at the top of the list are located on the East Coast, the Midwest is well represented with three Hoosier parks making the list.

Indiana's Top Pick

Taking the #17 spot, and the first Indiana State Park to make the list is Morgan-Monroe State Forest. Located in Central Indiana, Morgan-Monroe State Forest spans an impressive 25,000 acres in both Morgan and Monroe Counties. Mixbook describes Morgan-Monroe State Forest as "expansive."

Tucked away from the tourist trails, its expansive woodlands transform into a kaleidoscope of warm autumnal shades, offering a serene and off-the-beaten-path escape to witness the changing seasons.

More Than Just Foliage

Taking the #93 spot on the list is a place well-known to outdoor enthusiasts in Indiana - Clifty Falls State Park. Perhaps best known for its waterfalls and fossils, there is no doubt that Clifty Falls puts on a beautiful fall display. Mixbook calls Clifty Falls "peaceful" and "intimate."

The park's diverse tree species burst into a vibrant array of red, orange, and gold, creating a captivating scene against the backdrop of cascading waterfalls. Its lesser-known status ensures a more peaceful and intimate experience, making it an ideal destination to relish the changing leaves and natural beauty of autumn.

The Park Less Traveled

Rounding out the three Hoosier parks on the "Hidden Gems" list, we find Shades State Park taking the #132 spot. Full of beautiful hiking trails and stunning views, Mixbook calls Shades State Park "tranquil."

Its relatively lesser-known status ensures a tranquil and authentic encounter with the changing leaves, making it an ideal destination to appreciate the vibrant colors of fall while hiking its trails, exploring the rock formations, and savoring the serene beauty of the Midwest landscape.

There is no doubt that the Hoosier State is full of beautiful places to view the magic of autumn and the changing of the leaves. As the air gets crisper, hop in the car and visit on of these amazing Indiana locales to experience the season.
