Evansville Is Home to Southern Indiana’s Only Official Stationery Store Day Celebration

There are holidays for book lovers. Record collectors have their own day, too.

Now, paper lovers have one to celebrate as well.

Saturday, August 1 marks the 5th annual Stationery Store Day, and Evansville is home to the only participating independent stationery store in Southern Indiana. Memo Paper Goods on Main Street will celebrate with exclusive merchandise, giveaways, and plenty of reasons for fellow "paper people" to stop by.

What Is Stationery Store Day?

Stationery Store Day was created in 2022 by Kristina Berkey, owner of Calliope Paperie, after noticing how difficult it could be for people to find independently owned stationery shops.

Searching online for "stationery store" often led people to big-box office supply retailers instead of small businesses specializing in beautiful paper goods, greeting cards, journals, pens, stickers, and other thoughtfully curated items.

Inspired by celebrations like Record Store Day and Independent Book Store Day, Burkey decided to shine a spotlight on local paper shops and encourage shoppers to discover and support them.

Today, stores across the United States, and even internationally, take part each year on the first Saturday in August.

Evansville Is Part of the Celebration

Here in the Tri-State, Memo Paper Goods is the only participating independent stationery store in Southern Indiana.

The downtown Evansville shop, located at 209 Main Street, will celebrate from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. with a full day of special activities and exclusive Stationery Store Day merchandise.
