The Evansville Police Department shared a warning to motorists on Facebook to watch out for flaggers and temporary lane closures coming to the Lloyd Expressway.

Aren't Expressways Supposed to Be Fast?

Calling the stretch of Indiana State Route 66 that connects the east and west sides of Evansville an expressway has always seemed like a bit of a misnomer to me. The word "express" has always meant quick or fast, but anyone who has driven on the Lloyd knows that usually isn't the case.

TheLoyd4U Project Has Slowed Trfaffic on the Lloyd Expressway

The expressway has gotten even slower in recent months as construction continues as part of TheLloyd4U project that has crews working on multiple sections of the road - both on the westside and on the east simultaneously.

Traveling Across Evansville Is a Practice in Patience These Days

TheLloyd4U project stretches from the Vanderburgh-Posey County line to the intersection of the Lloyd and Cross Pointe Boulevard. Currently, construction is underway both on the westside with single-lane traffic, and on the east side near Vann and Stockwell Roads.

TheLloyd4U includes more than a dozen improvement projects along the Lloyd Expressway. The projects extend from one end of Vanderburgh County to the other, from Posey County Line Road to Cross Pointe Boulevard. The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) plans to invest more than $150 million in improvements to make the Lloyd Expressway more efficient and safer for motorists to navigate. In short, this project is about Making the Lloyd Work for You.

Temporary Daytime Lane Closures Start Monday

In most recent news regarding the project, the EPDs warn motorists that beginning Monday, March 24, 2025, we can expect temporary daytime lane closures. Flaggers will be out for both east and westbound traffic off the Lloyd at Stockwell Road as crews install the new overhead traffic signals. According to EPD the project is expected to continue through April 4, 2025, weather permitting.
