You might notice something a little different at a local Dunkin' next week.

Officers from the Evansville Police Department and deputies from the Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office will be spending the morning of May 15 in, around, and even on top of a Dunkin' location as part of a statewide fundraiser.

What Is Cop On A Rooftop

The event is called Cop On A Rooftop, and it brings together law enforcement agencies across Indiana to support Special Olympics Indiana.

This year, more than 50 agencies are taking part, raising money and awareness for athletes across the state.

How Your Donation Helps

Special Olympics Indiana provides year-round training and competition opportunities for more than 20,000 athletes across the state, all at no cost to participate.

Events like this help fund:

  • Training programs
  • Competitions
  • Equipment and resources
  • Opportunities for athletes to build confidence and community

Officer Taylor Merris with the EPD said the event is more than just fundraising.

“Cop on a Rooftop gives us a unique way to connect with our community while supporting our local athletes,” Officer Taylor Merriss said. “Every dollar raised helps provide opportunities for Special Olympics athletes to train, compete and build confidence. As first responders, we’re proud to stand behind these athletes and be part of a program that promotes inclusion, teamwork and respect across our communities.”

A Small Thank You For Donors

While the focus is on giving back, there's also a small perk for those who stop by:

  • Any donation earns a coupon for a free donut
  • Donations of $10 or more receive a coupon for a free medium coffee

A Community Effort

Since launching, Cop On A Rooftop events across Indiana have raised more than $125,000 for Special Olympics.

For Evansville officers, it's another opportunity to connect with the community while supporting a cause that impacts thousands of athletes across the state.
