VOTE: Indiana Drive-In Theater Nominated Among Nation’s Best

A Southern Indiana gem, the Holiday Drive-In is in the running for USA Today's Reader's Choice Best Drive-In.

The first drive-in movie theater opened in Camden, New Jersey, on June 6, 1933, and by the 1950s, there were more than 4,000 drive-in theaters in the United States. In 2024, there are currently fewer than 400 in operation. What was once a popular place to visit, has become kind of a thing of the past. Some folks may not have even been to a drive-in movie theater, or even have one in their area. That being said, according to Visit Indiana, the state of Indiana has the fourth most drive-in theatres in America.

When it comes to traditional movie theaters in Indiana, there are hundreds to choose from. Heck, there are even multiple locations in bigger cities. However, when it comes to drive-in movie theaters, there are only 20 locations that are still operational in Indiana. As a matter of fact, one of those drive-in movie theaters is up for USA Today's Reader's Choice Best Drive-In in the country, and they need your votes to win!

An expert panel has nominated their top 20 spots to enjoy a drive-in movie throughout the country, and the Holiday Drive-In, located in Reo, Indiana, is among the top 20. This is such a huge honor to be among the best drive-in movie theaters in America, and I am thrilled for my friends at the Holiday Drive-In.

It's no secret that Holiday Drive-In is one of the hot spots in the Tri-State during the summer months. This drive-in theater, located in Reo, Indiana, has been a staple of the Evansville area since it opened its first screen in 1955. The Holiday Drive-In is now one of the oldest American drive-in theaters still in operation. Still, 69 years later, moviegoers eagerly await the six-screen drive-in theater's opening weekend throughout the cold winter months to go outside and enjoy movies under the stars. Honestly, it is my favorite place to visit during the summer in our area.

The Holiday Drive-In is the only Indiana drive-in theater to be up for USA Today's Best. It's up to you to make sure that the historic drive-in makes its way into the top ten.
