Valentine’s Day Is the Secret to Scoring Cheaper Beef in Indiana
With Valentine's Day right around the corner, we're already seeing stores fill with various selections of chocolates, cards, and stuffed bears. However, there's one more item you might see more of this time of year—beef.
Grilling and slow-smoking meats are some of my favorite ways to spend a Saturday, Sunday, or really any other day of the week. I usually do a lot more of it around this time of year when it's cold, and I don't mind regularly tending to a hot fire. Plus, some cuts are a little less pricey during the colder months due to the lack of wintertime grilling overall. Beef steaks are among those discounted items, which, apparently, you can get a great deal on around Valentine's Day.
Is Valentine's Day Really the Best Time to Buy Beef?
Believe it or not, according to The Daily Meal, Valentine's Day is the cheapest time of the year to stock up on beef steak. This is likely due to the fact that many couples choose to treat themselves to a steak dinner during the big evening. Knowing this, stores tend to discount beef steaks ahead of the big day. Additionally, whatever is leftover after the holiday may even be marked down further, like turkeys after Thanksgiving or ham after Christmas.

What Cuts of Beef Are the Cheapest Around Valentine's Day?
Leading up to Valentine's Day, stores will discount all kinds of cuts of beef, including filet mignon, rib-eye steaks, New York strips, and T-bones. Personally, I don't mind buying a little bit of each and throwing it in the freezer for later use. If you want to save even more money, you can look into buying whole cuts of beef and slicing them into steaks yourself. Many times, you can find a rib roast for about half the price per pound as rib-eye steaks. The same is sometimes true for beef tenderloin, which is where filet mignon comes from. That said, I would still grab a card and some chocolates on your way out the store, unless you're dating a vegetarian. In that case, I would look into downloading Tinder.
