Have you ever driven on any of these spooky Indiana roads?

This is the best time of year for a good scare. Haunted attractions are open everywhere. Perhaps you have already visited some. There's not a lack of haunted houses here in  Indiana. In fact, there are so many that you might not have been to the one with the best scares. Of course, these haunted houses aren't actually haunted. As you know, they are full of actors dressed up with the intent to scare you. If you really want to get scared, you might want to visit an actual haunted house with unexplainable noises, voices, and apparitions.

Now, there are a lot of haunted places throughout the state. Recently, we've discovered the most haunted house in Indiana, the most haunted restaurant in Indiana, the creepiest haunted library in Indiana, and the urban legend of a haunted cemetery found in Indiana. Since Indiana is known as the "Crossroads of America," I thought it would be interesting to find out if we had any spooky roads. In a recent survey conducted by Gunther Volkswagen of Delray Beach, over 3,000 drivers weighed in on America’s 140 spookiest streets and haunted highways. As it turns out, Indiana is home to three of them!

Three of America's Scariest Roads are Found in Indiana

So, which roads in Indiana are among America's spookiest? Let's take a look.

Avon Bridge

Coming in at number 64 on the list is the Haunted Avon Bridge in Avon, Indiana. Locals say you might encounter the ghost of a weeping woman whose child was killed on the railroad tracks or a drunken worker who fell into a load of wet construction concrete and was entombed in the bridge itself. Both of these tales have the same thing in common, they all say to honk your horn when going under the bridge to drown out whatever haunting sounds you may hear when passing by.

Hamilton Road

Hamilton Road in Mulberry, Indiana landed at number 70 on this list. According to Indiana Haunted Houses:

Urban Legends say the ghost of a short man will chase you if you stop on the third bridge and flash your lights four times, then cross the bridge. Phantom flames are also known to come from the woods where an 1800s church caught fire. A phantom train also comes down the tracks that are nearby. This road is a dangerous location, especially during rainy or winter weather.

Reeder Road

Ranking at number 111 is Reeder Road in Griffith, Indiana. According to Indiana Haunted Houses:

Local Legend says there is a hitchhiking ghost on Reeder Road and she goes by the name of Elizabeth Wilson. Elizabeth supposedly drowned in a swamp when her car went off the road and her ghost has been seen waiting at the roadside for a ride to her old house. But once she's inside the car, she disappears at Ross Cemetery, where she was buried in 1955. Other local stories say the spot was a popular place to dump Mafia kills in the 1930s and was also a popular suicide location in the 1980s and 1990s. People say the area is haunted by voices, strange lights and apparitions.

Have you ever driven along these Indiana roads and experienced something paranormal? Would you be brave enough to venture out on these roads after dark?
