Oakland City's long-time staple, Taylor's 2, has been closed since December, with its future uncertain. Now we know what the future holds for the steakhouse.

When I was a kid, I lived in Oakland City for a few years. Now, there wasn't much there, but one thing I do remember is eating at Taylor's 2 Steakhouse. Featuring typical bar food like burgers, sandwiches, onion rings, fries, etc., Taylor's 2 is probably best known for three things: their inch-thick pork chops, their country ham, and my personal favorite, their ribeye steaks.

Located on Indiana Highway 64, just over a mile and a half east of the intersection of Highways 57 and 64, Taylor's 2 is what some would call a hidden gem. Covered in pale-yellow sheet metal siding on the outside, with a privacy-fenced patio area, you could classify it as a "dive", but don't let that deter you from the food waiting for you inside.

Back in December, the Oakland City staple took to social media to make a big announcement. The Facebook post read:

Taylor’s 2 Steakhouse will close on Sunday, December 14, to assess what our future will be. This was not an easy decision. During this time, we will continue to host private parties and our catering. We will make a decision, hopefully, by the first of the year. I would like to thank everyone who supported us over the past few years.

The steakhouse has remained closed ever since December 14th, 2025. Fans of Taylor's 2 have been eagerly awaiting word from the establishment about what the fate will be. Well, last night we all got the update that we were waiting on!

Major Update With Taylor's 2 in Oakland City

In a post on Facebook, the steakhouse announced that it will be reopening under new ownership. Taylor’s 2 Steakhouse is now under the new ownership of Bill and Vicky Hulfachor of Arthur, Indiana. Vicky is a familiar face to those who dined at Taylor's 2, as she has been a server there since the summer of 2020.  The Facebook post goes on to say:

They are working hard every day to prepare the restaurant for our grand reopening that we will announce VERY soon! Repairs, deep cleaning, and training/refreshing of new employees and existing employees are a few of the main priorities they are focusing on before opening up so we can better serve you here at Taylor’s 2.

So, no opening date at this time. However, it's great news knowing that the long-time Oakland City establishment will be reopening soon. You can check out the full announcement below:
