Winter Storm Blair

The entire Tri-State area hunkered down on Sunday January 5th, as we all braced for Winter Storm Blair to tear through the Tri-state.  The winter storm brought with it freezing temperatures, sleet, freezing rain, and snow.   The winter storm brought so much ice with it that there are numerous road closures and thousands of power outages across the region. This storm has truly wreaked havoc on our area.  As of writing this at 10:46 AM on January 6th, Evansville and Henderson are both under State of Emergencies (the Henderson one was added in addition to the statewide state of emergency issued by the Governor).

Emergency Resources Activated

Many emergency resources have been activated to help the community during this time when many are still without power, and travel restrictions are in place.  We have put together a comprehensive list of emergency resources across the Tri-State, from warming centers, to volunteers giving rides to work for medical employees, to tree removal from roadways, you can find all of the emergency information you may need, here. 

Dramatic Photos and Videos Being Shared

With the winter storm, many folks have been keeping each other up to date with what is going on through photos and videos on social media, but one video caught my eye.  The video below was taken by Ed Barnhill in Evansville was shared on the Indiana Weather Network Facebook page, and it has been viewed more than 150,000 times.

The video shows powerlines as they are snapping and igniting on fire across a backyard.  The footage is terrifying to watch, and a reminder of just how serious the implications of this storm can be.  Stay safe, and stay warm out there.
