This is the best time of year for a good scare. Haunted attractions are open everywhere. Perhaps you have already visited some. There's not a lack of haunted houses here in Kentucky. In fact, there are so many that you might not have been to the one with the best scares. Of course, these haunted houses aren't actually haunted. As you know, they are full of actors dressed up with the intent to scare you. If you really want to get scared, you might want to visit an actual haunted place with unexplainable noises, voices, and apparitions.
Now, there are a lot of haunted places throughout the state. Recently, we've discovered a Kentucky hotel among the most haunted in America, a Kentucky neighborhood named the most haunted in America, and a very haunted tunnel found in Kentucky. One website recently found that a Kentucky hotspot is among one of the most popular haunted trails in the country.
What is a haunted trail? In this case, it isn't a walk through the woods with people dressed up like scary creatures ready to pop out of nowhere to hear you scream. We're talking about places from misty mountain paths to eerie cemetery routes that offer more than just outdoor adventure - they’re filled with ghostly encounters and chilling legends. Whether you love hiking, cycling, or simply exploring, these trails promise an unsettling brush with the supernatural.
One of the Most Popular Haunted Trails in the US is in Kentucky
In a recent study, the website Buycycle, analyzed over 100 of the spookiest haunted trails across the U.S. to find the most popular haunted trails in the U.S. and used Google search data to identify the top destinations for outdoor and paranormal enthusiasts. As it turns out, the fourth most popular haunted trail in the country can be found here in Kentucky! The location? Mammoth Cave Trail at Mammoth Cave National Park. Here's what Buycycle said:
Descend into the heart of darkness - both above and below - as you explore the spooky trails of Mammoth Cave National Park. This park harbors the world’s largest cave system of 400 miles, and the legends surrounding it are just as vast. The ghost of Floyd Collins, an explorer who tragically died after being trapped in the cave in 1925, is said to roam the tunnels. Hikers on the Mammoth Cave Trail have reported hearing his cries for help near the cave’s historic entrance, and sudden cold drafts are often felt when passing by.
