It's always a bummer to hear about a local business shutting their doors.

Downtown Newburgh

I grew up in Newburgh, and it always astounds me how much downtown Newburgh has grown and flourished over the years.  Now it's filled with unique shops, boutiques, restaurants, and more.  It's such a charming little downtown area.  For the past 14 years one little boutique has been a popular place to shop, but unfortunately, they announced they will be shutting their doors.

Economic Hardships

It seems like in this economy we are constantly hearing about businesses closing.  It's truly sad to hear of a local business shutting their doors because local businesses are truly the heart and soul of our community.  Unfortunately with the way the economy seems to be these days, and how expensive everything has gotten, we've seen more and more local businesses impacted by these hard times.  Flutter has been a staple in downtown Newburgh for more than a decade, an they announced on Facebook that they are saying goodbye.

A Goodbye from Flutter

Flutter is known for being an upscale boutique specializing in unique pieces for your wardrobe. I've shopped a few times at Flutter and they have always been very friendly and had a wide variety of clothing, shoes, and accessories.

On July 26th Flutter took to Facebook to announce that they will be closing at the end of August:

Dear Flutter Community,
I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to personally share some important news with you all, as your support has meant the world to me over the past 14 years.
After much reflection and consideration, I have made the difficult decision to step away from Flutter. Our storefront will be closing on August 31st. This decision has not been taken lightly, and it comes after a long journey of self-discovery and healing.
Earlier this year, I entered a 30-day recovery program for codependency and other traumas. This experience began a journey of self-discovery, healing, and learning what it means to truly love myself. As a result, I’ve realized the importance of prioritizing my well-being, something I didn’t fully understand before.
Since January, customer spending has dropped over 30%, leading us to seriously evaluate the business. This, combined with the challenges brought on by COVID, a warehouse fire, a lengthy renovation project, and personal struggles, has made it clear that I can no longer commit to the grind required to restructure Flutter back into alignment.
Flutter has been my passion and pride for over 14 years, but it’s time for me to prioritize my physical and mental health. Despite the challenges, Flutter was a thriving boutique, and I am incredibly proud of what we’ve built together. My hope is that someone with fresh energy might see the tremendous value in the business and the building it has called home for so long.
I want to express my deepest gratitude to my incredible team, our loyal customers, and the entire community. Your support, especially during tough times, has been invaluable. For that, I am forever grateful.
For those with gift cards and outstanding credits, they will be honored through August 31st.
We don’t have any ultimate plans or strategies beyond this announcement. We’re taking things one step at a time, one day at a time, and keeping our hearts and minds open to what comes next. This is not something that is happening to me; this is happening for me. I have a choice in this, and I’m choosing me. I am deeply grateful for the impact this community has had on my life. I will cherish this experience and these memories forever.
Thank you all for your understanding, support, and love.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Erin
