Would You Dine at Kentucky’s Most Haunted Restaurant?

You might get a little bit more than a delicious meal when you dine at this haunted Kentucky restaurant.

Typically, when you go out to eat, you are more concerned with what to order off the menu. However, there are some establishments throughout the country where you might also have to consider that some uninvited guests might join you...and I don't mean like your in-laws randomly showing up at the table next to you. I'm talking about restaurants that are said to be haunted.

The Food Network compiled a list of the most haunted restaurants in each state. Naturally, I was curious about which restaurant was chosen for Kentucky. Now, we know of several notorious haunted places throughout the Bluegrass State, but this one stands out in a different way. Clearly, this article was written a few years back, because the name of the restaurant they mentioned is permanently closed. However, a new restaurant opened up in that location and embraces its haunted history.

The Most Haunted Restaurant in Kentucky

According to Food Network, the most haunted restaurant in Kentucky is Shandies in Paducah. Unfortunately, that restaurant closed a few years back. However, a new restaurant, Stella's, is currently occupying that building. So, naturally, that makes Stella's the most haunted restaurant in Kentucky, because it's the building that's haunted, not the restaurant.

Built in the 1800's and most commonly referred to as the Cohen building, it has been a home to multiple businesses and a long line of Cohen family members up until the death of Stella Cohen in 1980. Food Network claims that Stella happens to be the one behind the hauntings at Stella's.

The building is purportedly haunted by the spirit of Stella Cohen Peine, who died in the upstairs apartment. Her two dobermans, who guarded the building while she was alive, were found guarding her body when she passed away. On opening night, a party goer swore she saw a doberman ghost walk through the room. Other mysterious happenings include glasses falling from the bar, flickering lights and unexplained "cold spots" in the room.

So, if you are ever in Paducah, stop by Stella's and ask about its haunted history. I'm sure those who work there or frequent the establishment have plenty of stories they can share with you.
