Evansville Retailer to Close After 60 Years in Business

Paul’s Menswear launched a retirement sale last month, with plans to close doors after over 60 years on the west side of Evansville.

While I never personally purchased a suit from Paul’s Menswear, I can certainly appreciate the time that goes into getting a suit or pants tailored. I purchased my first suit in December 2019 when I started going on job interviews after college. Buying my first suit around that time was, to me, a symbol of accomplishment, and it was a great experience. I would imagine many in the Evansville area have similar stories about shopping at Paul’s Menswear.

Whether it was a wedding, prom night, or other special occasion, Paul's Menswhere has been there for gentlemen in the tri-state area for several decades. In fact, the team has a combined experience of more than 100 years in sales and alterations. The Eickhoff family has run the business since 1963, when Paul and Ruby changed the name from Abel and Wesselman to Paul's Menswear. Currently, the store is run by Shawn Eickhoff, her husband Steven, and her brother-in-law John.

WEHT reported that the owners are ready to retire and struggled to find a buyer for the store. Thus, Paul’s Menswear launched a "retirement sale" on Saturday, June 1, and is clearing out all shirts, suits, and pants while supplies last. While it's definitely a bummer to see a community staple close, it's great that the family can now enjoy retirement. The store is located at 2225 W. Franklin St. in Evansville.
