The sheer volume of drivers on these two Illinois roadways inside of the most populated part of the state combined with distracted driving and other factors have led to this notorious mention. The fact that the weather in this part of Illinois can sometimes be wildly unpredictable doesn't help either. The Illinois State Police have even more data about their own vehicles being hit while on the side of these highways from distracted drivers.
