The once grand McPike Mansion stood in Alton Illinois for years as the main staple of the town. Now after sitting for many years, the current owners are trying to bring the place back to life. However, you know that saying "If these walls could talk," well they are. This home is considered one of the most haunted homes in Illinois and the nation.

According to House Beautiful, McPike Mansion is the place to visit this spooky season.

The accounts of hauntings for this former boarding house go all the way back to the 1940s. Back then, boarders would hear children playing (when no children lived there). Though it was abandoned for decades, passersby would see faces in the windows. The ghostly presence of a former owner was also seen wandering the grounds.

The home was built in the late 1860s and had several owners until the 1950s when it was left abandoned. Vandals did thousands of dollars in damage and Mother Nature did her fair share of weather-related damage too.

The new owners are trying to fix it up, but have experienced orbs of light, and voices of children, and when abandoned people driving by would see images of a man who people think is the original homeowner.

This Grand Ole House is thought to still house many of the spirits that once lived here.  Many Psychics and Mediums have felt the presence of what they believe to be McPike family, servants, as well as some of those who resided in and owned the house since 1936.
