Indy’s Got a New QB: Colts Will Trade for Carson Wentz
As a die-hard Indianapolis Colts fan, today is a good day. After a lot of rumor and speculation, it turns out that yes, Philadelphia quarterback, Carson Wentz, is going to be a part of the horseshoe next season. Let’s go!!
According to ESPN, “The Philadelphia Eagles have agreed to trade star quarterback Carson Wentz to the Indianapolis Colts for a 2021 third-round draft pick and a conditional 2022 second-round pick that could turn into a first-rounder.” So, this means that in exchange for Wentz the Eagles will now get the 85th pick in this year’s draft plus, depending on how many snaps Wentz takes next season, they could also end up with a first-round pick in 2022. As part of the trade deal, the stipulation is that if Carson Wentz plays at least 75 percent of the Colts’ offensive snaps next season that conditional second-round pick will turn into the previously mention first-round pick in 2022. Not a bad deal for either team if you ask me.
Now, I have already seen that this news is music to some Colts fan’s ears. However, I have also seen that some fans aren’t too excited just yet. I do understand both sides of the argument. That being said I think that Wentz coming to Indy is going to turn out great for the Colts organization.
I know that Wentz has had issues with injuries but when he healthy he is an absolute stud. Especially if you look back at his 2019 season. He basically had no offensive weapons and his offensive line was subpar. Yet, he still managed to throw for over 4,000 yards and toss up 27 touchdowns. Not to mention he was a potential NFL MVP back in 2017. The guy can play.
Another plus in this situation is the re-pairing of Carson Wentz with Coach Frank Reich. Wentz has had his best years while working with Reich. So, I think it’s fair to assume that this head coach QB duo is going to work in Indy.
All in all, I think this trade will work out for the Colts. There will be plenty of offensive weapons at Wentz’s disposal plus he will be protected by one of the best offensive lines in the league. As an added bonus he will have very reliable defense to help get him out of any tight spots. I can’t wait for next season already.
