Indiana’s Harmonie State Park Hosting Free Falconry Event
Birds of prey are spectacular and majestic creatures. They are incredibly intelligent predators and can, and are, used in hunting.
In fact, falconry is the term used to describe hunting that takes place by utilizing a bird of prey to hunt wild animals in their natural habitat. Obviously, to do this, the bird must be well trained. Someone who trains and hunts with a bird of prey is called a falconer.
If we are ever playing two truths and a lie, and one of the options is "Kat has always wanted to become a falconer and have a trained hawk as a pet," please know that it is not a lie. I am unsure when the idea of having my own red-tailed hawk as a pet became a thought in my mind but it is something I have dreamed of since I was a kid.
Now obviously, I am not going to become a falconer any time soon, if ever but I still have a deep fascination with birds of prey, and red-tailed hawks in particular, so I was very excited to learn that there is a falconry event planned at Harmonie State Park.
On Sunday, February 20, 2022, members of the Indiana Falconers Association will be spending a couple of hours at Harmoni State Park offering an incredible educational opportunity to nature lovers of all ages.
The event will begin at 1 pm at the Harmonie State Park Nature Center and is completely free to attend. If you would like to learn more about the free event, please visit the official Facebook event page here.
